SCREW WORM SMEAR
The flies deposit their eggs in the wounds resulting from accidents, castration, deboming branding, scalding by dips tick bites, etc., or on the naval of newly-born animals.
The maggots penetrate tissues which they liquify and thus extend the wounds considerably. The wounds develop and evil odour and a foul smelling liquid oozers out.
Wounds must be cleaned thoroughly and an effective dressing applied to kill young maggots.
FARMSET LTD Screw Worm Smear is the most effective for this purpose as well as being virtually non-irritant to wounds.
The smear is applied with a small paint brush -a one inch brush is suitable. It should be applied liberally to the wounds and outer edges where most of the eggs are laid. Particularly attention must be also paid to deep pockets in the wounds which may already be heavily infested.
Bleeding woulds need treatment twice a week. Other wounds generally require one treatment a week until they are completely healed to protect them from attack by Screw Worms.
